Street View United States

Street View started here, in 2007, in five cities. American coverage is therefore both the oldest and the deepest, and the archive on a Manhattan street goes back further than anywhere else on earth.

City guides

4 written guides for United States, each with the streets worth walking and the views worth opening.

What the coverage is like

The first five cities were New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami and Denver, in May 2007. Anything you find from that year is from the original rollout.

Coverage of the road network is close to total, including unpaved roads in the mountain west and a great deal of the national park system.

Depth of history is the thing that sets the United States apart. Urban streets commonly have eight or more captures, which turns the slider into a record of a neighbourhood changing rather than a novelty.

Worth opening beyond the city guides

Route 66 through Arizona and New Mexico, where the surviving alignment runs beside the interstate that replaced it.

The Overseas Highway to Key West, forty-two bridges across open water.

Antelope Canyon and much of the Colorado Plateau, captured on foot where no road goes.

Detroit, where the history slider does something no other city's does: whole blocks appear and disappear across the captures.

Places to open

16 locations in United States, each one a single click into Street View at the right spot and facing the right way.
